XP / Vista / Windows 7 Internet Security (year).

What can I say about this malicious piece of sh…oftware? (Well it's a family site so I'll leave it at that!).

Seriously this nasty piece of work invades your system uninvited, looks like a part of the Windows "experience", even trying to lead you to believe that it is a Windows Update!

Once in your machine it will take over lots of things: Taskmanager can no longer be called into use (Your Administrator has removed that privilege, no I didn't, I AM the Administrator!!), Internet Explorer and Firefox (probably Opera too) get hijacked and a message says that the site you are trying to view is "bad" (Google bad? maybe hacked, but it stopped me from looking at the Club site and pages stored on my PC as well!!). Another couple of things I noticed when this nasty foisted itself on me were: AdAware was disabled and, a file was written that removed the security program that my bank supplied next time I re-booted!! Those are just a few.

The software "scans" your PC and tells you what threats it's found or, rather, it lies about them! It also pops up messages telling you that you are being attacked by a hacker and even gives you an IP adress. This was extremely clever of it because, as soon as I realisied what was happening (within seconds of it starting up) I had disconnected the affected PC from the home network. There was no other computer ANYWHERE that was connected, let alone could be attacking this PC, because it was not connected to any other computers at all!!

All the time it is active (and you can't switch it off!) it pesters you to register and clean your machine. DO NOT DO THIS!!! Built into the "Security" are key loggers, password stealers and other nasty bits, all they want is your card details and your cash, there is no product!

When I finally got it removed it was reported, by a TRUSTED program (the one that removed it, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, seriously good free version, extra features in the pay for version, well worth the less than 20 quid asking price in my opinion!) that there were 49 hasties to get rid of (and it got rid of them too). This from a previously clean machine!

It can be easy(ish) to remove but you will need the assistance of another (uninfected) computer and a memory stick or similar.

My advice is:

If XP or Vista or Windows 7 Internet Security (year) appear on your PC, immediately shut down the system and request help. (Disconnect from the network / internet as well because it could download more nasties in the background).
